Hi, Visited the museum this morning. Thanks very much for your excellent route description. Could not do it without it.

Unfortunately, the outdoor aircraft are not well kept. They are in urgent need of painting and better protection against the elements. Particularly the Tu-124 seems to have lost its roof already and is now covered with makeshift aluminium plating.

There are a few changes to the route description: in Monino railway station, the platforms no longer give direct access to the underground passage. Best is to take he \'overground\' to the far side of the station (i.e. the other side than where the station building is), from where you can reach the latter section of the undergound passage.

The blue metal gate and vehicle check-point have gone.

Signs saying ЦEHTPAЛЬHЫЙ MУЗEЙ BBC have been added on the whole route from outside the station to the museum. These are a great help.

Fare Yaroslav to Monino and back is 198 rubels.

Although I did, there is no need to register in advance. Entrance fee was 350 rubel + 200 for a camera. The lady had difficulty in finding change from a 1000 rubel note.

Cheers,
Fons

I stumbled upon your site and wanted to share my museum story with you.
My first visit to the museum was in early March, 2007. A friend\'s parents live in Monino - her father is a retired captain and flight instructor at the Air Force Academy. She, her brother and father took me on a Sunday morning. Father talked a custodian into letting us in for a couple of hours. It was a beautiful day - clear and cold, and all of those fantastic planes!
My next visit was five months later in August for the 2007 Aviashow that took place just before that year\'s MAKS. Along with checking out all of the historic aircraft again I also got the treat of seeing Strizhi perform for the first time! I haven\'t been back since 2009, but hope to see the museum and Monino again as soon as possible.
Just a little update - the check point that used to be at Monino\'s main entrance is no longer there.

Thank you for your excellent directions & Field Guide. I used the information to visit the museum in August 2011. The return train fare from Moscow to Monino has gone up to 198 rubles and the departure sign at Yaroslavski train Station has been updated. However, little else has changed.

The train journey with the various sellers is an experience not to be missed. Perhaps nearly as good as visiting the museum! Admission still costs 350 rubles, plus an extra 50% to take a camera in to take photos.

Anybody interested in this museum should also consider visiting Victory Park in Moscow. General admission is free, although you can pay 7 rubles to look at the outdoor tank, plane and boat exhibition, which is fantastic value for money.

I visited the museum in the beginning of June 2011. I didn't arrange permission in advance. The directions were perfect and the museum was not difficult to find.

The people at the entrance don't speak any english. They wrote down some details from my passport and after 10 minutes they gave me an entrance ticket.

The museum itself is great. A must see for aviation enthusiasts.

Just visited the museum today. Worth the long journey there.
No need to call in advance or register.
Also the vehicle check point doesn't seem to be in use anymore and wasn't manned today when I visited at 1530H.
The training sport and parachuting hangar was closed (seems to be indefinite)

Thanks for your great directions.

I visited Monino last summer following your instructions. It was a kind of Challengers Trophy or Rally Paper that worked perfectly. I and my girlfriend took good laughts because all happened as you said: the vendors on the train, the cheap and nice ice-creams and the woman at the train station that smiled a lot when I asked “МOE-nee-na ee a-BRAHT-na” with 2 fingers in the air and a 500 roubles bill in the other hand. Well, the Museum it's a must and we did not make it without your help. Thanks a lot and if you visit Madeira Island one day, I hope I can be so usefull for you as you have been for us. Best Regards, Luís Oliveira

may 2010 - Train ticket from Moscow to Monino was 99 rublei for person one way. Don't ask for contacts at Monino because they don't speak any english. We went there on a saturday and the museum was open until 5 o'clock in the afternoon (maybe because it was May 8, the eve of Victory Day).
This museum it's a must......awesome.....go there!!!!!!
Price was 900 rublei for two persons and one camera.

Thanks so much for such a useful guide, especially on how to get there. It was spot on at every level. You have achieved everything you set out to do in your intro!

I wouldn't have attempted the trip to this excellent museum otherwise - Very many thanks.
